W.E. Rock Eastern Series Round 1 Day 1
The Tennessee skies opened up on Friday afternoon adding one more level of difficulty to the already difficult courses: Wet Rock. Thanks to the hard work of Kenny and Julia Kizzar, their neighbors and friends, the comp area, that was destroyed by the recent tornado was cleaned up and ready to offer competitors and spectators the same event that they have been used to.
The competitors showed up from as far away as New England putting a 15 hour drive on the list; ready to take home the first win of the series. The natural rock wall offered lots of options, but W.E. Rock found the most difficult ways to send the competitors through the cones with multiple courses unobtainable by many.
The Unlimited class had a consistent night with Father Son team of Bill Barton and Chicky Barton coming out as the class leader. In a typical looking hill climb vehicle, Wes Keen was the only
competitor to make the most difficult A2 course, but with a mechanical difficulty on A3 he finished 2nd in the class. Alex Vaughn and Brian Milsap are tied for third going into tonights competition.
Seven competitors showed up for the Pro Modified class with Kenny Blume taking the lead by 17 points, he was one of three to be able to complete the A2 course that had a 12-15ft vertical climb with a ledge in the middle. Derek West, who had competed in the same car in his first desert race 2 weeks prior, came in second with a perfect score on A4 after taking the bonus line. The rest of the pack is close behind making tonights performance crucial and the shootout will sure be exciting. Mike Thompson is sitting in third, Justin Lawson, Shelby Gilstrap are respectively only a few points behind.
Duane Garretson took the early lead in the Modified Stock class, Kelly Young and Mike Smith are separated by only one point. The win can still go to anyone tonight.
Saturdays competition starts at 7pm, gates open at 4pm.
