Modified Stock in Perris

The Modified Stock class is just about where every great Rock Crawler started out. In fact when the sport of Rock Crawling started, there was only one class and many of them were comparable to the Modified Stocks. Great names came from this class like Cody Waggoner, Jeff Mello, Becca Webster, Jason Scherer, Jody Everding, and so on. Some moved into the class like Tim Florian, some stayed consistent and made the class what it is today.

As a whole, the sport's foundation is based on this great entry-level class with extraordinary driving talent. Think about having to drive your usual grocery getter Jeep with a basic lift over some of the craziest terrain one can even dream about driving up, it takes a TON of skill and the Ladies and Gentlemen in the Modified Stock class have every bit of it.

Most teams don't ever look down on the more affordable class on smaller terrain because they all came from it, they all realize that they were in those same shoes, and they all in ways miss their roots of stock wheeling. Meanwhile the current teams in the class enjoy every bit of it and the hard, technical courses they are faced with. Each have their own reason for staying in or moving into the class, and if you get the chance to ask one of these teams why, please do so, I will almost guarantee a few great stories.

As far as this Perris event goes, no team got any certain amount of practice time on the courses, which definitely made for some hairball situations, but the teams prevailed and came out with great scores. We mentioned Tim Florian earlier, He and his spotter John Moulden moved from grabbing the "Rookie of the Year" title in the Pro Modified over to the Modified Stock in joining Above All Rock Crawling with Buzzy Bronsema and Shon Wilson. This move proved to be a great one as it provided both the team and Florian their first win at a W.E.ROCK Event.

Second place came in as Tory Trinka from the great Pacific Northwest as his placed higher than ever before in a well built and well rounded Jeep. Third place was no newbie to the Modified Stock Class, Rock Cat Racing's Kathy Crook in her little CJ5 made big waves as she tore the rest of the podium and field up. Fourth Place was Brian Crofts in his first rock crawling event ever, while driving Jody Everding's old Modified Stock Rig. 5th was Those Gals with Krystal McAuliffe at the wheel while 6th was rounded out by Renee LeBaron, a southern California Native.
