Class Winners: Pro 4400 – Bill Baird ; Mod Trail – Tim Carter ; Stock Trail – Travis Wilson

The second Dirt Riot Southeast Series race was hosted at Gray Rock ORV outside of Birmingham, Alabama in a lush green and brown environment where the safety orange color of Bill Baird’s Ultra4 car stood out not only in color, but in speed, taking the win by a full lap. Earlier in the day Mod Trail winner Tim Carter and Stock Trail winner Travis Wilson raced against a field of over a dozen. “We had a great time here at Gray Rock! Everyone was very helpful and the spectators were a lot of fun. We were happy to run all the races earlier in the day to be able to have open wheeling in the afternoon,” said Rich Klein, President and founder of W.E. Rock Events. “Dirt Riot’s Pro 4×4 class is continuing to expand and grabbing the attention of the highest level racers that are looking for more seat time, practice and just plain fun!”

The course at Gray Rock ORV park had some great high speed sections at the beginning and end of each lap; in between saw a lot of elevation changes and tight, twisty tree sections. “The rain had come on Wednesday and created some mud puddles that no matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t get to dry up,” explained Klein. “By the end of the race, the mud puddles had expanded to at least 5 times their original size and we were glad that we didn’t use some sections that we had considered.”

In the 4400 class, eight cars took the green flag; after the first six laps, only half the field was still running and at a very fast pace. Bill Baird in the safety orange 5252 was the fastest qualifier, fastest lap and leader for all of 23 laps on this 3.5 mile course. He was smokin’ fast and consistent through the entire race for the win; Brian Shirley held the 2nd place position, keeping pace with Bill through the entire race. The third and fourth place cars of Jeff McCullough and Kevin Crews battled through all of their 15 laps. Kevin had to pit every lap to add water to keep his radiator cooled, and luckily Jeff was running quite a ways behind him on every lap. The drama increased when the white flag waved and Kevin took a hard roll taking over 30 minutes to complete his last lap! Jeff appeared to be able to beat him to the finish line, but ran in to some trouble of his own, as the checkered flag was dropped, Jeff eased over the finish line just ten seconds ahead of Kevin on the same lap. With corrected time, Jeff would secure the 3rd place finish. Tony Arledge would complete 6 laps for fifth, Jason Carner completed 5 laps for sixth, Adam Carter took seventh and Bobby Potts would take eighth.

The Trail Class race in Birmingham came with a lot of heart. Most of these drivers are good friends and had good times around the campfire on Friday night. In the Stock Trail Class, Travis Wilson and Scott Lang battled it out lap after lap in the two-hour race. At lap 9, Scott finally overtook Travis as first on course, although he had been first on corrected time for several laps leading up to lap 9. Lap 10, Scott still held the lead; at lap 11, Travis came in first and then we waited….the next time we saw Scott, he was walking up to the start/finish line, he had broken the spring eye bolt and was done. This was a farewell race for Scott Lang as he hangs up the stock Cherokee to spend more time with his family. Not that we won’t see the Cherokee again, rumor has it Robby Bobby has already picked it up. Scott Prince took third, Brian Gray took fourth, Roger King took fifth and unfortunately Lew Childres took a DNF at this race.

In the Mod Stock Trail Class Tim Carter took the win with Sam Gillis just five minutes behind him. Kevin Hite took third, Todd Klueger took fourth and Kenn Hite took fifth while VJ Perrin took a DNS.

This was the second Southeast Regional Dirt Riot race of three. The third and final race of that series will be August 24^th at Durhamtown Plantation in Union Point, GA. Dirt Riot New Southeast Series Endurance 4×4 Racing This Weekend at the Gray Rock ORV
Racing Saturday 27^th Starting at 9am in Birmingham, AL at Gray Rock ORV

PLACERVILLE, CA APRIL 24, 2013: The new Dirt Riot Southeast Series will have its’ second race this weekend at Gray Rock ORV outside of Birmingham Alabama. With multiple names already confirmed to come and race, this will be another weekend full of action and entertainment for drivers and spectators, and proof that the Southeast Series is here to stay. Racing starts at 9am and will go until at least 3pm with awards immediately following. “I remember the first time that we visited the Gray Rock ORV Park and knew this would be a perfect place for a Dirt Riot race. We have worked all week on finalizing a course that uses their existing trail system,” said Rich Klein, President and founder of W.E. Rock Events. “We also enjoyed the town atmosphere and knowing there were lots of 4×4 enthusiasts close by. With that in mind, we adapted the race day schedule so local enthusiasts can come watch the race and still have time to go out and run the trails themselves.”

Drivers that are confirmed to race at this event include Birmingham Locals in the Blue Torch Fab car, Adam Carter and Bill Baird of Bill Baird Motorsports from Kentucky. The Robby Bobby team of Roger King will be racing and a field of Stock 4×4 vehicles is already forming with Scott Prince, Kenn Hite and Kevin Hite already registered. Also attending will be stalwarts of the Central Series Kyle Bruso and Tony Arledge. Many more are scheduled to attend, and you are also welcome to join. With only some simple safety requirements, anyone is welcome to come and race!

There are 3 Professional 4×4 classes, a Trail/Sportsman 4×4 class and a UTV class. The classes are built to encourage local 4×4 or UTV participants to join us in a day of fun racing. Spectators are encouraged to come and enjoy the day of entertainment on Saturday April 27^th. Qualifying for the 4400 4×4 group starts at 9am. Side by side racing action starts at 10am when four classes take the course at the same time for a one hour grand prix finish race: UTV, Trail Class, Stock, and Modified Stock. Following at 11:30am, the professional 4400 4×4 drivers will race for three hours with a grand prix finish at approximately 2:30pm. The winners of each class are determined by the most number of laps completed in the set amount of time. The awards ceremony and cash payout immediately follows the final race. Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for ages 8-15, children 7 and under free and Military with ID get $5 off. The race course is approximately 3.5 miles of good racing terrain. Gray Rock has a lot of elevation changes and tight technical trails that were connected to utilize most of their existing trail system. The course is twisty with wooded hillsides and washout areas that cross the trails that will keep the drivers busy and on their toes, while choosing not to use some areas that were previously planned including the bunny slopes area fearing that too much moisture would make racing impossible. It will be easy enough for UTV’s and Stock 4×4 participants to have fun, but tough enough for the Pro 4400 cars to be challenged.

Double Header Weekend in Cedar City Utah with W.E. Rock Rock Crawling and Dirt Riot Endurance Racing
Professional Rock Crawling Saturday May 11^th Starting at 9am
Dirt Riot Endurance 4×4 Racing Sunday May 12^th Starting at 9am

PLACERVILLE, CA MAY 8, 2013: This weekend will be two days of very different types of 4×4 off road racing at the Three Peaks Recreation area outside of Cedar City, Utah. Saturday will be Professional W.E. Rock Rock Crawling all day and Sunday will be fast paced Dirt Riot Racing, with the main race not starting until afternoon. Both events are spectator friendly and easily accessible by car at the county park. “This is one of the original rock crawling sites in the nation that offers some of the best rock formations and best spectator viewing in the nation,” said Rich Klein, President and founder of W.E. Rock Events. “For Dirt Riot on Sunday, I think I am fair in saying it will be the best course of the year so far with technical tree sections, moderate to easy rock sections, some high speed straight a ways and a spectacular road crossing jump!”

Both days events have classes that are built to encourage local 4×4 or UTV participants to join in a day of fun competition and racing. For fees and payouts go to http://www.werocklive.com/2013-fees-payout. W.E. Rock is a Professional Rock Crawling series composed of 2 series of 3 events each that crisscross the country. Dirt Riot is an Endurance Racing series that is composed of 4 series of 3 races each that stretch across the country. This weekends event will be the second round of the Western Pro Rock crawling series and the second round of the Southwest Series Dirt Riot.

Professional Rock Crawling is one of the most intricate sports in the motorsports arena. It is technical, mechanical and filled with action. The rock courses are setup on a wall where spectators can bring their chairs and be able to see multiple courses running at the same time. This will be a one-day rock crawling event, each competitor completing a total of 6 courses. The winner will be determined by the driver that has the least amount of points at the end of the day, similar to golf. There are over a dozen drivers already committed to coming to compete, some driving over 14 hours to be part of this professional series. Unlimited Drivers include Justin Hall and Matt Messer; Pro Mod Drivers include last years series winner Jason Feuilly, Grand National winner Aaron Sykes along with Jesse Haines and Jared Neff. Additional drivers that are scheduled to compete include Mike Stokes, Paul Tyler, and others coming out of California. The stock class is available for any local drivers to compete in.

Dirt Riot Racing picks up the speed and puts race buggies, 4×4 trail jeeps, and UTVs on a 6 mile track to complete as many laps as they can within their groups set amount of time on Sunday. Racers include Todd Seawell from Colorado, Andrew McLaughlin from Arizona, Jesse Haines from Reno, among many others. In the Stock Classes, we will see Alan Johnson from Arizona and Shawn Rantz from New Mexico and Jason Kaminsky from Colorado racing along with others. In the Trail Class, which is more of a run-what-you-bring class with some safety requirements, there looks to be a large contingent coming to race out of the local Arizona and Utah 4×4 Clubs. The UTV Class should also be very competitive with many of the D&P Performance Arctic Cats from the local area, Frank Minice from Arizona and we are expecting Bebe Thiesen to compete again after some breakage in Moab earlier in the year.

Spectators are encouraged to come and enjoy the day of entertainment on Saturday May 11^th with Rock Crawling starting at 9am, and the final shootout expected to begin about 5pm. On Sunday May 12^th, qualifying for the 4400 professional group starts at 9am. Wheel to wheel racing action starts at 10am when the trail class takes the course for a one hour grand prix finish race. Following at 11:30pm, the UTV Class will race for one hour, followed by the Stock, and Modified Stock who will race for a two hour grand prix finish starting at 1pm. The professional 4400 4×4 is scheduled to start at 3:15 for three hours with a grand prix finish at approximately 6:15pm. All times are subject to change. The winners of each class are determined by the most number of laps completed in the set amount of time. The awards ceremony immediately follows the final race. Admission is $25 for a two day pass, $15 for adults, $5 for ages 8-15, children 7 and under free and Military with ID get $5 off. At this particular event, there is also a Family Day pass for $30 that includes any two generations of immediate family. There are vendors, food and amenities on site, and we encourage you to bring chairs and shade structures. There is camping available onsite. First Ever UTV Only Dirt Riot Race in Moab this Weekend at AreaBFE
Racing Saturday May 18^th Starting at 9am in Moab, UT at AreaBFE in coordination with Rally on the Rocks

PLACERVILLE, CA MAY 16, 2013: Dirt Riot is very excited for this weekends UTV only Dirt Riot race at AreaBFE, in coordination with the Rally on the Rocks event in Moab, UT. The UTV Sportsman Class may be stock vehicles with doors or door bars, 4 point harness, 1 fire extinguishers and a DOT Helmet. “We are here to offer any UTV the opportunity to race in this very fun area. We just ask for minimum safety requirements and drivers to have a smile the whole time, which shouldn’t be hard,” chuckled Rich Klein, President and founder of W.E. Rock Events. “The course is fun and challenging, yet manageable for stock vehicles. We are also encouraging spectators, friends and families to come out and cheer on the racers, the course that we have laid out is all on the upper section where the full 1.5 mile loop can be seen! Dirt Riot is truly a race built around the racers and for the spectators.”

The Drivers Meeting will be at 9am on Saturday at AreaBFE. Immediately following, the course will be open for Pre-Running. Qualifying will start around 10am with a one hour race for the Sportsman Class and then a two hour race for the Pro Class. The winner of a Dirt Riot race is determined by the driver to complete the most laps in the set amount of time. The awards ceremony will be immediately following. Drivers that are confirmed for this race include last weekends Cedar City Dirt Riot winner Dean Bulloch in his Wild Cat Willy’s Arctic Cat along with teammate Todd Stephensen. Cody Nygren from New Mexico and Justin Meader from Colorado will join others from the Rally on the Rocks event who are expected to join this excellent class of racers.

Spectators are encouraged to come and enjoy the day of entertainment on Saturday May 18^th. Racing will be on course from 10am to 2pm, with open wheeling at AreaBFE immediately following. PLACERVILLE, CA MARCH 20, 2013: W.E. Rock proudly announces Naozumi Tsuda’s JRCA, Japan Rock Crawling Association, is now officially sanctioned by internationally known W.E. Rock Events, LLC. The three round Suzuki Samari events will now be named Jimrock powered by W.E. Rock and the extreme rock crawling event will now be called W.E. Rock Japan. “We are very excited to extend our international presence into Japan,” said Rich Klein, President and founder of W.E. Rock Events. “Rock crawling around the world continues to be successful and we are very excited to join forces with this already successful Japanese series.”

PLACERVILLE, CA APRIL 29, 2013: The largest class of Dirt Riot UTV racers, to date, hit the course on Saturday April 13^th at the Coppermines Offroad Park for the second round of the Dirt Riot Central Series. There were 26 UTV’s on course, but that certainly didn’t take away from the Pro 4400 class where the top 3 all completed 13 laps within seconds of each other for the entire race. “The Coppermines Park always has so much to offer the racers and spectators that we love to come back here every year, ” said Rich Klein, President and founder of W.E. Rock Events. “We were excited to see such a great turn out in the UTV class. We have always had this class as an option, with an easy entry fee and safety requirements, and I am glad that it is really starting to take off.”

26 UTV’s took the start; in the end, Wesley Gryner would come from starting 25th to taking the overall win, his second win in the Dirt Riot Central Series. Only one minute separated him from Levi Shirley in second place and Brian Shirley in third place over the course of an hour. Jason Baird started first off the line and managed to hold on to a fourth place finish, having never seen the leaders, only corrected time told the story. Of the 26 who began the race, only five didn’t see the checker, a pretty remarkable task for a tough course. In the 4400 class, the race was very exciting and wasn’t over until the three hour mark on the last and final lap, where Clay Gilstrap would take the overall win. Spencer Murphy who started 7th after qualifying had made strides over the course of the day to be in contention for first by lap three. Corrected time again played a factor, by lap 4, Spencer was leading – it was truly too close to call amongst the top four racers: Levi Shirley, Brian Shirley, Clay Gilstrap and Spencer Murphy. Each lap remained the same, only seconds separating the top four. By lap 6, Levi was out of contention; the other three remained as close as before, changing leads by mere seconds. At the start of the last lap, Clay Gilstrap was behind Spencer Murphy by 26 seconds. As Clay emerged out of the dust first, having completed most of the seven mile horseshoe course, the crowd and teams held their breath, if Spencer came out of the dust within two and a half minutes, he was likely to win. The seconds ticked by, two minutes, then three, Spencer didn’t emerge until almost six minutes after Clay, he had a mechanical issue in the waning minutes of the race that cost him the win. The win went to Clay Gilstrap, his first, on the eve of his 30th birthday. Spencer Murphy would hold on to second, followed by Brian Shirley, Doug Kahlstrom, Carl Langerhans, Tony Arledge, Shawn Inman and Todd Wooten. Aaron Peters in his first outing with a new car wouldn’t take the checker this go round.

The Modified Trail Class and Stock Trail Class ran together for two hours of pacing the 7.4 mile course that incorporated a variety of terrain including a modified motocross short course track, wash bottoms, rocky ledges, rally style dirt roads, rolling hills, goat trails and included a stadium jump, the telephone pole wall, concrete drainage pipes and tank traps around the Red Dawg Saloon. The Stock Trail class winner was Doug McDowell with Mikey Longone not far behind in second. Cody St Clair and Jason Davis didn’t take the checker flag, but got third and fourth respectively. In the Mod Trail Class, Justin Lawson took first, with Shelby Gilstrap taking second and Emma Wilson taking third. Brandon Cox and Darrell Gray would take fourth and fifth respectively with Duane Garretson not able to complete a lap taking a DNF for this race.

In Dirt Riot there are 3 Professional 4×4 classes, a Trail/Sportsman 4×4 class and a UTV class. Dirt Riot Continues Central Series Endurance 4×4 Racing This Weekend at the Coppermines OffRoad Park

PLACERVILLE, CA APRIL 10, 2013: The Dirt Riot Central Series continues to draw professional racers, local 4×4 club members and UTV racers to form a 2013 series that is already heavily contested in all classes this year. This weekend, the 2013 Dirt Riot Central Series second of three races will be at Coppermines Offroad Park on Saturday April 13th, with racing starting at 9am. “We are excited to be back at the Coppermines Park, it always has so much to offer for the racers and spectators that we really enjoy our time there. There was some strong weather at the beginning of the week which helped water down the track, and since it has improved to what should be mid-70’s and clear by the weekend,” said Rich Klein, President and founder of W.E. Rock Events. “The course this year will include more of the park, and the post party on Saturday night at the onsite Red Dawg Saloon should be a ton of fun with a live band.”

Drivers that are confirmed to race at this event include Dirt Riot 2012 National Title holder Levi Shirley and his dad Brian Shirley. Texas locals, Clay Gilstrap with his fiancé co-driver Lindsay Syler. Crawling Chaos Club Members Carl Langerhans and Shawn Inman. Doug Kahlstrom will be in attendance along with Aaron Peters debuting his brand new Ultra4 car, and many others will register on Friday at the Driver Meet and Greet located at the park. The Stock Trail and Stock Mod 4×4 class will have common names at the Dirt Riot events including 2012 Central Series Stock Mod Champion Come Get Ya Some Duane Garretson. There are also over 10 UTV’s already registered to race including last series race winner Wesley Gryner and Matt Enochs. With only some simple safety requirements, anyone is welcome to join and race as part of the action!

There are 3 Professional 4×4 classes, a Trail/Sportsman 4×4 class and a UTV class. The classes are built to encourage local 4×4 or UTV participants to join us in a day of fun racing. Spectators are encouraged to come and enjoy the day of entertainment on Saturday April 13^th. Qualifying for the 4400 4×4 group starts at 9am. Side by side racing action starts at 10am when three classes take the course at the same time for a one hour grand prix finish race: Trail Class, Stock, and Modified Stock. Following at 12:30pm, the UTV Class will race for one hour, followed by the professional 4400 4×4 at 2pm who will race for three hours with a grand prix finish at approximately 5pm. The winners of each class are determined by the most number of laps completed in the set amount of time. The awards ceremony and cash payout immediately follows the final race. Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for ages 8-15, children 7 and under free and Military with ID get $5 off. There are vendors, food and amenities on site, and we encourage you to bring chairs and shade structures.

Below Freezing at W.E. Rock Professional Rock Crawling Eastern Season Opener in Dayton, TN

One of the coldest weekends in April at the Kizzar’s Rock Crawling ranch outside of Dayton, TN brought out only the core group of drivers and spectators for the first round of the W.E. Rock professional rock crawling Eastern Series. “Friday was 28 degrees after factoring in the wind, and Saturday wasn’t much better. It was miserable, so I can truly call every spectator that came out a Hard Core Rock Crawling Fan!” said Rich Klein, President and founder of W.E. Rock Events. “We really appreciate everyones support in Dayton and will be back in town August 9^th and 10^th for the final Eastern round!”

In the Pro Modified class, Kenny Blume took an early lead on Friday on the first obstacle; he continued to battle Josh Crowe until the end of the night, establishing an 18-point lead. Kenny ended the event with first place, the same way he began the 2012 season. Danny Rohrer was the only one of the three to have a 40-point course that put him in third place.

Josh Jordan, from Rhode Island, won the Unlimited class. Jason Brown fought new car issue all night Friday and was unable to complete all the courses. He fixed and repaired as needed and was able to compete on Saturday establishing some great scores until the end of his third course when he broke again.

Fifteen year old Cole Milsap competed for the very first time in the Sportsman class behind the wheel of the 22 Unlimited buggy previously owned by Bill and Chicky Barton. His dad, Brian Milsap, competed right along side him to take the win. Duane Garretson took second in Sportsman, and first in the Modified Stock class. Also in the Sportsman Class, Chris Smith and Austin Harrah took fourth now competing in the former Mike Shaffer championship Pro Mod 914 rig. Fifth place went to Keith Phillips with Duane Garretson spotting. All of the drivers, with the exception of Duane Garretson, were new to their cars and trying to find their rhythm.

Professional Rock Crawling is one of the most intricate sports in the motorsports arena. It is technical, mechanical and filled with action. The rock courses are setup on a wall where spectators can bring their chairs and see multiple courses running at the same time. The two-day format includes four courses of competition on Friday night and another four courses on Saturday night, with a final shootout on Saturday night, which usually determines the final finishing positions! The winner is determined by the driver that has the least amount of points at the end of the weekend, similar to golf. The next Eastern Series Rock Crawl will be at the Badlands Off Road park in Attica Indiana as part of their UMC event that also includes an Ultra4 race and TREC race, June 29th and 30th. The next Eastern Series event in Dayton will be August 9th and 10th.

W.E. Rock Professional Rock Crawling Eastern Season Opener this Weekend in Dayton, TN
Professional Rock Crawling Friday and Saturday Nights April 19^th and 20^th starting at 7pm Eastern Time

PLACERVILLE, CA APRIL 17, 2013: This weekend brings Professional Rock Crawling back to the most well known 4×4 rock crawling wall in the Eastern Series: just outside Dayton Tennessee at 35 Pitts Gap Road, Graysville, TN. The event is very spectator and family friendly with the professional drivers available to sign autographs and throw gifts into the crowd in midst of the competition. “We love coming to Dayton to kick off the Eastern Pro Rock Crawling Series, the crowd here is amazing and a ton of fun,” said Rich Klein, President and founder of W.E. Rock Events. “We really appreciate everyone that comes out to cheer on the competitors. They work hard all year to put on a show, and they really bring the show to Dayton!”

There are over a dozen drivers already committed to coming to compete, some driving over 14 hours to be part of this professional series. Names that are familiar include Unlimited Drivers 2012 Series Winner Carl Shortridge and father son team of Bill and Chicky Barton; Pro Mod Drivers include last years series winner Kenny Blume along with long time competitors and crowd pleasers Josh Crowe and Danny Rohrer. Additional drivers that are scheduled to compete include Duane Garretson, Chris Smith, Mikkel Martin and others. There is a stock class that any local drivers are welcome to compete in.

Local 4×4 participants are encouraged to participate in the Sportsman Class and join us in two nights of competition and fun. Rock is a Professional Rock Crawling series composed of 2 series of 3 events each that crisscross the country.
